The thoughts are unruly,
oh, why cant they be still?
Particle by particle they move forward,
yet we see naughty ones jumping queue.
Give them a smack and they turn tail,
but once the eye is gone,
they bully the good thoughts and scare them away.
Is it so hard to get them in line?
Why do they not put on their best behaviour?
Dont they know that all of them have a role to play,
but if the timing’s not right they should stay in the queue till their turn is called upon.
Should we show them the whip to tame them?
Tell them to behave and put them in place!
“There is a time to work and watch for the time to play!”
Pray, consider the bigger picture and know what should be done.
For if we dont focus on the task at hand, dire consequences will emerge,
and alas, we will not achieve our goals on time.
Behave, listen and do your due,
in time you will then receive your rewards!

I can relate so much to this post, Clariice!! I can never control the distacting, ‘unruly’ thoughts! In fact, the more I try, the more they succeed and I fail at the task in hand! The thoughts are unruly,
oh, why cant they be still?
This opening is incredible. It caused a flash of recognition to pass immediately through my mind!
“Particle by particle they move forward,
yet we see naughty ones jumping queue.
Give them a smack and they turn tail,
but once the eye is gone,
they bully the good thoughts and scare them away.”

Thanks! I know, we need to unfortunately learn to be focused and that only happens when there’s a pressing deadline…dont you think so? :p

If only it were that easy.. focus is something that is very much needed, but the mind of a poet is a wanderer, and the thoughts take freedom. It isn’t a distraction when facing a deadline I think, more of a pressure control. In my world atleast.. Maybe not for all. Quite thoughtful and thoughtprovoking.. Is this your Poets rally post?

Hi Leo, Thanks for popping by!
I know – wanderer. That’s a dilemma I was pondering over – without wandering thoughts, there is a boundary for new inspiration in creation but with too much of wandering thoughts, one takes some time to be focused…
I just participated in the Rally – so this is my entry for this week 🙂
Cheers!

Thanks Cindy! 🙂 Time management is indeed important and we need to control our minds well too!

Very clever words Clariice, I really enjoyed the imagery used. So true both of the mind and of society

(Sorry I accidentally pressed the post button too early) Loved the line
“Should we show them the whip to tame them?
Tell them to behave and put them in place!”

Yes, we put in our efforts to tame them but sometimes we succeed but not all the time..But we should not be deterred and let’s continue with our best efforts! 🙂

Our mind, at times, is our own enemy. The more we want to focus, the more we get distracted…SIGH…
clariice said:
Yes it does, only when it’s at the most pressing, do we manage to subdue the slippery mind!
Thanks D!

Thanks for coming by! By the way, just a question – not sure how the association with manners and Distraction come about?

Amazing where the mind goes when it is allowed to wander, isn’t it!
I get easily distracted at times and go into a wandering daydream.
Thank you for your comment on my blog.
Enjoy the rally 🙂

Thanks Daydreamertoo!
Let’s try to focus where possible 😀

Hi clariice, I like your idea of trying to tame your thoughts 🙂 While I was trying to comment here I was distracted by so many things, so I can relate!

Hi Ina,
Thanks for visiting! I know, the internet is a place filled with distractions, isnt it?

Ah. those disconcerting, distracting thoughts; popping up at the most inappropriate times! Good description!
And thanks for commenting on my work!

Hi Donna,
Thanks for coming by! Control of the mind is something we all need to work upon, it’s hard work, but still, we need to continue trying!

Free flight would be amazing, wouldn’t it? Not needing to sit in an airplane.
I always used to look out the windows and think, wouldn’t it be lovely to just walk across the tops of those clouds, of course, in reality, you’d fall stright through but, I could almost imagine what it must feel like to glide or to soar… amazing I bet!
Thank you for your comments 🙂

Hi Daydreamtoo,
you’ve lost me..Free flight?
Anyway, thanks for visiting!

I love the concept here, and yet, sometimes I get so focused it becomes dangerous. lol
clariice said:
Focus comes with discipline. So better with focus then without, else we will never be able to get anything done…my two cents worth.
Thanks for stopping by!

I can completely relate to this concept! I have to smack my thoughts in line when they get me worrying/stressing too much. 🙂
clariice said:
We must have belong to the same ancester line in the earlier times. Worry/stressing only encourage the growth of grey hair..so, smack them harder and I am sure they will keep still for a while 🙂

It is the wandering, unruly quality of a poet’s mind which makes him spin out the delightful stuff that he does me thinks. Lovely work Clarice! 🙂
