Inspired by Michelle Branch’s song “Life Goes On” while I was on my running routine, I came up with this:
When the sun comes up,
we start the day.
Sad, happy we choose our mode,
ups and downs we learn to grow,
build up courage to face adversity.
Moments passed before we realised,
dusk has come upon us.
Our energy ebbing,
time to recharge,
till the next day we see,
once again the sun rises,
as per schedule; without fail.
Troubles to put behind,
unhappiness to forget,
life is going on,
in our daily moments,
so cherish what you have,
before the seconds fly us by.
This has a nice lilting rhythm, as if you were running as you wrote it. One thing I wonder about though, do we really choose our mood each morning? Or does happiness or sadness simply take us over?
Good spot, I did have some ideas when I was running but I only tried to pen them out when I got home. It’s an interesting question which you have pointed out. We do choose our mood, I think. Even by letting happiness or sadness take us over, it’s a form of passiveness(or unconscious choice) – we choose to let the mood take us over. Personally I am trying to amend the situation – being more conscious of uplifting myself no matter the circumstances. It’s not 100% but I try to put in more effort into that. It helps to build up optimism and confidence in a way – ie. I can take anything that comes my way!
